Tumai runs for roughly 800 m to 1 km down Tsuken's west coast, and the ferry company describes it as quiet and shallow, with clear water. In season people swim, snorkel, windsurf and fish here, and the reef edge offshore draws fish and divers. Nakanu-utaki, one of the island's four sacred groves, stands in the middle of the beach and holds the tomb of Kishaba-shi, the man islanders honour as their ancestor.
A carrot-shaped observation tower and a campground stand near the beach, built in 1997 to celebrate the island's main crop.
