Shurijo Revival Festival
首里城復興祭(旧・首里城祭)FestivalNovemberNaha & Shuri
The Shurijo Revival Festival fills Shuri Castle Park and Kokusai-dori with royal processions and performances from 1 to 3 November. The 2026 festival falls in the year the rebuilt main hall of Shuri Castle is completed.
The festival went by the name Shurijo Festival (首里城祭) until fiscal 2021, when the organisers renamed it to build support for finishing the castle's rebuilt main hall (正殿) in 2026. It runs over three days at Shuri Castle Park and on Kokusai-dori in central Naha.
The Ryukyu Dynasty Picture Scroll Procession (琉球王朝絵巻行列) takes over Kokusai-dori on 1 November 2026 from 12:30 to 15:00, with a procession of the Chinese envoys (冊封使) among the dancers. The king and queen come out in front of Hōshinmon gate at 10:00, 11:00 and 12:00 on 2 November. On the holiday of 3 November the Old-Style Procession (古式行列) recreates the king's visit to three temples below the castle and walks from Hōshinmon to Shureimon from 12:45 before heading down Ryūtan-dōri until 16:00.
Most stages and processions are free to watch. The bell-ringing at the offering house in front of Kōfukumon and the special tour of the grounds need a castle admission ticket or annual pass, and the tour takes 15 people per session by advance booking.
