The Taketomi Yamaneko Marathon is a road race on Iriomote that starts and finishes at Uehara Elementary School in the west of the island, with courses from 5 km up to 23 km. The 32nd edition is on Saturday 13 February 2027.
Yamaneko means wildcat, and the race takes its name from the Iriomote cat (イリオモテヤマネコ). The Taketomi Town Sports Association runs it from Uehara Elementary School. The 23 km and the 10 km take 500 runners each. The 5 km has 50 places for adults and 50 for junior-high students, and the whole field is capped at 1,200.
