Okinawa main-island route buses

Okinawa's main-island route buses are run by Ryukyu Bus Kotsu, Naha Bus, Okinawa Bus and Toyo Bus, with a ¥280 flat fare on Naha city routes and expressway buses from Naha Airport to Nago in about 1 hour 50 minutes (¥2,520) and to the Churaumi Aquarium in about 2 hours 27 minutes (¥2,880), at fares in force from 1 April 2026.
Four companies share the main island's network. Ryukyu Bus Kotsu and Naha Bus belong to the Daiichi Kotsu group and share one website. Okinawa Bus also runs the airport limousine, and Toyo Bus works out of Nanjo with routes such as the Sefa-utaki line. Several routes are joint, including expressway bus 111, which all four run. The hub is Naha Bus Terminal beside Asahibashi monorail station. For timetables and stops in English and other languages, use Bus Navi Okinawa. The operators share this journey planner, and it also shows where each bus is.
Bus 111 runs from the airport up the expressway to Nago in about 1 hour 50 minutes, and bus 117 carries on to Motobu Port and the aquarium in about 2 hours 27 minutes. Route 120 takes the slow road up the west coast, stopping in Chatan and along the Onna shore, and needs 2 hours 44 minutes to Nago. The independent Yanbaru Express runs its own airport line to Nago and on past the aquarium to Unten Port at lower fares, eight or nine times a day from stop 1.
OKICA makes paying easiest, and the same card works on Yui Rail. Ryukyu Bus Kotsu and Naha Bus say OKICA is the only transit IC card they take, so leave the Suica in your pocket on their buses. Some of their buses now take contactless credit cards. The Yanbaru Express takes Suica and the other nationwide cards, and it has no OKICA reader. With a bike, fold or dismantle it and bag it; the Daiichi Kotsu buses and Okinawa Bus then accept one per rider when there's room.

Weather and cancellations
Okinawa Bus's annual congestion forecast lists 30-minute to one-hour delays island-wide and around Naha Airport over New Year (1–5 January), the Nago cherry blossom festival slowing traffic between Nago and the expressway in the afternoons from late January to early February, 30 to 60 minutes on the February holiday weekends, and about 30 minutes around the pro baseball spring camps in February. On Sundays from 12:00 to 18:00 Kokusai-dori becomes a transit mall and buses take detours. Ryukyu Bus Kotsu and Naha Bus issue delay and cancellation certificates at Naha Bus Terminal.
Worth knowing
- Kokusai-dori has two sets of stops: Naha city routes stop at Matsuo 1-chome and Tenbusu-mae, routes from outside Naha at Matsuo and Makishi.
- On Sundays and holidays each adult on Naha Bus or Ryukyu Bus Kotsu takes up to three primary-school children free, except on expressway buses.
- The fare box gives no change; the changer beside the driver takes ¥1,000 notes and coins, so break bigger notes before you board.
- Bus Navi Okinawa's live bus positions save a long wait at a roadside stop in the rain.
