Ogami Kaiun's boat crosses from Shimajiri fishing port on Miyako's north coast to Ogami in about 15 minutes, four times a day each way, for ¥370 one way, and it takes no bookings.

Ogami has no bridge, so this small boat is the only way over. It leaves Shimajiri at 8:30, 10:30, 13:30 and 16:20 and comes back at 8:50, 11:15, 14:00 and 16:40. The gaps between sailings run up to three hours, which sets the shape of a visit. Most of the island outside the village is sacred and closed to outsiders, so a walk round the harbour village and lunch fill the time.
Yachiyo Bus's 6:30 and 12:00 runs from Miyakojima City Hall call at Shimajiri port, and the rest stop at Shimajiri-iriguchi up the road.
