Anei's Hateruma packages are the easy way onto Japan's southernmost inhabited island for a day. The cycling course hands you a plain city bike off the 8:00 boat and leaves you free until the 16:20 sailing, and the company names Nishihama among the finest beaches in Yaeyama. Anei asks you to leave the bike unlocked, because lost keys are the common problem on Hateruma.
From April to late October the Hatoma and Barasu trip is the one with English-speaking staff. It snorkels around Barasu, which is a bar made of broken coral between Hatoma and Iriomote, and then gives you time to walk Hatoma, where about 50 people live. Book on Anei's site to get the online price.
