No-Y opened on Zamami in 1994, and its name comes from the Okinawan word for a calm, bright day at sea. The shop runs two boats, the 17 m Venus with a toilet and shower and the smaller Island III, and returns to port between dives, which helps anyone prone to seasickness. Most of its sites sit 5 to 20 minutes from the harbour at an average depth of about 10 m. Pension Takatsuki, the shop's own guesthouse, stands opposite the school a three-minute walk from Zamami Port.
In whale season the Venus goes out daily when the sea allows, and the shop puts its own sighting rate above 90%. It advises day-trippers to book early in their Okinawa stay so a cancelled trip can move to the next day. The Zamami Whale Watching Association lists No-Y as one of its English-speaking boats.
