Okinawa Longevity Table
Food tour
Okinawa Longevity Table, in an old-style house five minutes' walk from Ocean Expo Park in Motobu, serves a 90-minute experience of a short film made with near-centenarian grandmothers and a traditional Okinawan tray meal on yachimun, for up to eight guests (booked through VELTRA).
The session opens with tea and a short film about grandmothers close to 100 years old, then serves the dishes they cook in it on a boxed tray with yachimun pottery. Along the way you handle goya, shell ginger and sugar cane and hear how older Okinawans used bitter and fragrant plants in everyday food. It finishes with tea and traditional sweets in the house.
It makes a quiet counterweight to a morning at the aquarium, and the address, 398 Ishikawa, is eight minutes on foot from the aquarium car park. Groups stay small, at eight at most.
