Hatoma Port is the harbour on the south side of Hatoma-jima, where Anei Kanko and Yaeyama Kanko Ferry boats land from Ishigaki twice a day each in winter 2026/27, and Taketomi Town says the north wind cancels as many as 80% of December sailings in some years.
Both companies send one boat a day direct from Ishigaki and one by way of Uehara on Iriomote, and the short hop from Uehara takes 10 to 15 minutes. Anei Kanko takes cash only at Hatoma, so draw yen on Ishigaki before you sail.
In November 2025 Taketomi Town and two Iriomote dive operators began running a trial boat between Hatoma and Uehara, because rough seas had kept cancelling the regular boats. It ran twice a day with 12 seats, charged visitors ¥2,000 one way in cash, gave islanders priority and was planned for 40 runs through February 2026. We found no word in October 2026 on whether it returns for 2026/27.

Weather and cancellations
Anei Kanko runs Hatoma as an extension of its Uehara route and cancels Hatoma whenever Uehara is cancelled. Taketomi Town told the Ryukyu Shimpo in November 2025 that the north wind raises cancellations on the Hatoma route every winter, to as much as 80% of December sailings in some years.
Worth knowing
- Carry cash for the trip back, since Anei Kanko takes nothing else at Hatoma.
- Leave a spare day either side of a winter stay on Hatoma, given how often the north wind stops the boats.
