Iriomote Hotel by Hoshino Resorts

The Taketomi tourism association calls this the biggest resort hotel on Iriomote. It stands at Uehara on the north coast, ten minutes by car from Uehara port, which the fast boats from Ishigaki reach in about 45 minutes. All 139 rooms are 42 m² twins, with a daybed for a third guest. The activity desk books jungle cruises through the mangroves and trips to the reefs off the west coast.

The outdoor pool has its own changing rooms and showers, and there's a coin laundry. Bicycles and canoes are for hire, and the desk arranges diving. When the sea closes Uehara, boats run to Ohara on the other side of the island, so check before you sail.
