Miyako-jima buses

Miyako Kyoei Bus runs most of Miyako-jima's route buses, from Hirara to Miyako Airport, Maehama and Kurima, Ueno and Yoshino for ¥170 to ¥560 from its garage, and Kyoei and Chuo Kotsu both run flight-timed buses from Shimojishima Airport.
Miyako Kyoei Bus runs the network from its garage in Hirara. Route 4 is the beach bus, out past the airport to the Tokyu Hotel at Maehama and over the bridge to Kurima-jima, four times a day from Hirara. Route 5 heads southeast to the Ueno German Culture Village and on past Shigira to Miyaguni, and route 1 crosses to Yoshino and Hora on the east coast. The buses run a handful of times a day, so a day out takes planning around the timetable, and Kyoei's BUS GO system shows where each bus is.
Shimojishima Airport on Irabu has its own flight-timed buses. Kyoei's route 9 stops all the way through Irabu and Hirara to Miyako Airport and the Tokyu Hotel, and Chuo Kotsu's Airport Liner runs non-stop to the Hilton before calling in Hirara. Both run only when their flights do, on a separate winter timetable from 25 October 2026. The Miyako Island Loop Bus was a city-backed trial run by the three companies together; its season ended on 28 February 2026, and the operators had announced no restart by October 2026.
