Azamiya's Minsah Kogeikan in Ishigaki city teaches visitors to weave Yaeyama minsah on hand looms, starting with a ¥2,000 coaster that takes about 30 minutes (2026 prices).

Azamiya has woven minsah on Ishigaki since 1971, and its main shop in Tonoshiro is the only one of its stores that runs the hand-weaving sessions. An instructor sits you at a loom for the last stage of the process, which is the weaving. Azamiya's own motto reads the five-and-four squares of the pattern as itsu no yo made mo, for ever and ever.
Your finished piece is collected later or posted for ¥400. Visitors who live overseas need to come back for it, so book early in your stay. Children in the early years of primary school need a parent with them, and pre-schoolers can't join. The route bus stops at Minsah Kogeikan-mae, a minute's walk away, and there's free parking for 15 cars.
