Tokashiki set up its own association in November 2023 and keeps the season shorter than Zamami's, sailing only in the weeks when the most whales are around and only in the morning. Spotters on the hills locate the humpbacks before the boats leave, and the association says that once a boat sails it meets whales every time. The member boats collect island guests at their lodging and day-trippers at Tokashiki Port.
Plan the ferry before anything else. Only the 9:00 Marine Liner from Tomari's north pier lands in time for the 10:00 departure, and the association needs your booking by 18:00 the day before to staff the lookouts. You will not get back to port mid-trip if you feel seasick, so take something before you board. Booking is by phone or LINE in Japanese, either with the association office or a member shop.
