Tarama Village governs Tarama and Minna islands and their roughly 1,000 residents; RAC flies there from Miyako in 20–25 minutes.
Tarama Village covers 22.00 km² across Tarama island and little Minna, and it counted 985 residents in September 2026. The village office stands in Nakasuji, and Sumamunutarama in Shiokawa is the souvenir shop and lunch counter where most day-trippers eat. The island's sugar mill makes unrefined brown sugar.
The village's great event is the Hachigatsu Odori. The nation lists the dance as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property, and it runs for three days from the eighth day of the eighth lunar month. Otherwise the pace is slow and the roads empty.
