Boraga Beach at Bora on Miyako's south-east coast is a small beach park with a pool fed by natural spring water and the launch point for kayak tours to the Pumpkin Hole cave.
Boraga takes its name from the spring that feeds the beach park's pools, and the city calls the spring-water pool its special feature. The beach in front of it is a launch point for sea kayaks and stand-up paddleboards.
The main trip goes to the Bora Kubakundai limestone cave, which people call Pumpkin Hole, about 500 m to the east. It is an old sacred site and parts are off-limits; since August 2022 a conservation agreement between the prefecture and the tour operators means you reach it by kayak or SUP only, to protect the coral. Offshore the current runs hard, so swimmers should stay near the beach.
