Hateruma Airport (HTR) has a regular Daiichi Koku Twin Otter service to Ishigaki that takes 30 minutes and normally runs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. The airline planned suspension periods from November 2026, so check its calendar before you build a trip around the flight.
Tabiris reported that Daiichi Koku brought air service back to Hateruma on 22 January 2024 with a DHC-6-400 Twin Otter, and that RAC had dropped the route 17 years earlier. The flight leaves Ishigaki at 10:00 and Hateruma at 11:30 on its normal days, and the airline fixes the dates a month or two ahead with Taketomi Town. A fault found on 14 July 2026 grounded it until 11 September. Checks and aircraft scheduling then took out 7–21 October and 2–11 November.
Okinawa Prefecture runs the airport, which has an 800 m runway. Daiichi Koku's check-in counter in the terminal has no staff between flights and opens once the plane is in. Taketomi Town's free bus links the airport with Mushama Park in the village on flight days, and since 5 January 2026 the same service also meets the ferries at Hateruma's harbour.

Weather and cancellations
Daiichi Koku flies by visual flight rules and holds flights when weather cuts visibility. It can also cancel a planned flight that has no bookings, and it pays nothing toward ferries or hotels when a flight is cancelled.
Worth knowing
- Read Daiichi Koku's calendar before you plan around the flight, and keep a ferry booking as the fallback.
- Pack light: Daiichi Koku checks 10 kg per passenger in total and charges ¥300 per kg above that only when the day's load allows.
