The line runs on a concrete guideway 8 to 20 m above the streets, so you look across Naha's rooftops the whole way. From the airport it runs through Oroku to Asahibashi for Naha Bus Terminal, then to Kencho-mae and Makishi at the two ends of Kokusai-dori. Past Omoromachi it climbs hard to Shuri, with a 60 per mil grade between Gibo and Shuri, and since October 2019 it has carried on through four more stations to Tedako-Uranishi.
Paper tickets are QR codes you hold to the gate reader. The local OKICA card also works on the main island's route buses, and only OKICA gets the ¥200 fare for a one-station hop. Suica and the other nationwide transit cards have worked on Yui Rail since 10 March 2020, according to Wikipedia's account of the launch, and you top them up at station machines with cash. Contactless credit and debit cards came to all 19 stations on 28 March 2025; tap the pink reader at the front of the gate, and expect the adult fare, since card taps can't carry child or disability discounts.
A bike comes aboard folded or taken apart and in a bag. Pack it before you reach the gate, then use the lifts, because the stations have no down escalators. The 2-day pass suits a short Naha stay: buy it at the airport on arrival and it covers your rides around town and the airport run home if your flight leaves inside 48 hours.

Weather and cancellations
Yui Rail runs at reduced speed when the wind reaches 15 m/s and stops at 25 m/s, according to its FAQ, so typhoons can halt the line. It stops after earthquakes until the track is checked.
Worth knowing
- The Bus-Mono Pass from Naha Bus adds a day of Yui Rail to a day on Naha city buses; Naha Bus sells it at its offices and the Naha city tourist information centre (see okinawa-buses).
- From Shuri Station the castle is a 15-minute walk, or 5 minutes on bus 7 or 8.
- Two people can't ride on one contactless card; each rider needs a card in their own name or a ticket.
- Naha Airport Station has only four of its biggest lockers, so for a bike box over a few days use the airport's Before U Go counter instead (see oka).
