Wanyu came to Kunigami from Taiwan in 2017 with a master's degree in ecology and evolutionary biology and guides in English, Japanese and Chinese. The night tour drives the forest roads around Ada looking for roosting Okinawa rails and owls, with photo time kept short so the birds are not disturbed. The herping walk uses the trails at the Yambaru Discovery Forest, where newts and frogs come out after dark.
Prices are per group plus ¥1,000 a head for insurance, so two people pay less each than one. Without a car, plan the logistics before you book: the Kunigami village bus does not reach the Discovery Forest, and the dawn tour starts at the Fungawa Dam car park, which means a taxi from Naha. The guide's site notes that the Discovery Forest suspended overnight stays in September 2026 after typhoon damage, with trail access still open for a fee.
