Yanbaru Manabi no Mori is a 14-room nature lodge at Aha in Kunigami beside the Yanbaru forest World Heritage area, with forest-view twin rooms and a goemon-buro bath, about two hours by car from Naha.
Yanbaru Manabi no Mori takes its name from learning in the forest, and it sits at Aha on the east side of Kunigami, right against the woods that became a World Natural Heritage site. The 14 rooms include twins with a forest-view balcony and their own shower booth, and the panorama of the Kunigami mountains from the grounds is the reason to come. The large bath has a goemon-buro, the old iron-cauldron tub, scented with citrus such as shikuwasa. Breakfast is a Japanese or Western set.
In February the forest is cool and green. The lodge makes an overnight stop on a Cape Hedo loop ridden over two days, with the east coast road close by. Ask about dinner when you book, and ask, too, about a place for the bike.
