Miyakojima Sea Park in Karimata is an underwater observatory where 24 acrylic windows look straight onto the reef, for ¥1,000 an adult.
The observatory sits in the sea off Karimata on Miyako's north-west coast, and a tunnel leads down to a room with 24 acrylic windows onto the reef. It is the way to see Miyako's fish on a day when the north wind makes snorkelling unsafe. The seaside Cafe Kaiyu on site serves lunch.
Adult entry is ¥1,000 and children under six go free. The park can close for typhoons, and in August 2026 the wheelchair stair lift was out of service, so check the notices page before you go.
Worth knowing
- Combine it with the Yukishio Museum, also in Karimata, on a north-coast ride.
- Cafe Kaiyu inside serves lunch from 11:00 to 16:00.
