The tower on Teruyama gives a 360° view over Tokashiku and Aharen and across to the Zamami islands, the Ministry of the Environment says. In season the spotters search for whales from here and guide the boats, and the Japan Tourism Agency names it with Nishiyama as Tokashiki's best places to watch whales from land. Kerama azaleas bloom on the hill from February to March, and the azalea is Tokashiki's village flower.
Worth knowing
- Combine it with a ride between Tokashiku and Aharen, since the lookout sits on the ridge between them.
- Bring binoculars in winter; the whales are usually well offshore.
