Yonaha
与那覇Yunapa24°45′ N 125°16′ EVillageMiyako-jima
Yonaha covers the south-west corner of Miyako-jima in old Shimoji town, where Yonaha Maehama runs past the Tokyu resort to the Kurima Ohashi.
Yonaha was one of the wards of Shimoji village when it formed in 1908, and Shimoji town had 3,225 people when it merged into Miyakojima City in 2005. The district runs down to Yonaha Maehama, 7 km of white sand, with the Tokyu resort at its middle and the Kurima Ohashi at its south-east end. Before the bridge, boats left for Kurima from the old Maehama port.
Inland it is sugarcane, where Minaaiya makes yushi tofu on weekdays and Maipari's orchard café presses mango juice beside the beach. Shima Gohan Attakaya in nearby Sukama cooks home-style dinners, so a base here needs no drive into Hirara at night.
