17END is the shoreline at the north end of Shimojishima Airport's 3,000 m runway, where the approach end runs out toward the sea, and visitors reach it on foot.
Runway 17/35 at Shimojishima is 3,000 m long, and its 17 approach end reaches out toward the sea, which is why the spot is known as 17END; photographers came here for years to shoot jet training. Until 2019 people drove along the airport perimeter road beside the runway. Since the passenger terminal opened on 30 March 2019 the road is closed to vehicles for security, and you walk in.
Plan the walk around low water and good light. Skymark and several international carriers now fly passenger jets in, and the terminal café is open to non-flyers. A reviewer at a nearby soba shop in August 2026 called the visit a disappointment, so check the tide table before you ride out.

Marea Miyakojima puts March water at 21–23 °C, and JMA normals give Miyako a February average high of 21.1 °C. The runway end points north into the winter wind, so bring a windproof layer for the walk.
