Aharen Beach is Tokashiki-jima's main beach, where about 800 m of white sand lines the south-west coast 5 km from Tokashiki Port, and it has village lifeguards from 11 April to 30 November in 2026 and compulsory life jackets for snorkelling inside the monitored zone.

Aharen runs about 800 m in front of the village of the same name, with the islet of Hanari about 800 m offshore, and TripAdvisor ranked it sixth among beaches in Japan in its 2016 Travellers' Choice list. The village splits the water into three zones, and the boat lane in the middle is off limits to swimmers without a guide. Inside the monitored zone a snorkeller has to wear a life jacket.
Divers know the point south of the beach for the Aharen Lighthouse site, where the visitors bureau describes caves and crevasses beneath the lighthouse to 20 m for advanced divers. Marine Diving says the site works in winter and draws cuttlefish to spawn. Aharen village crowds its restaurants and shops around the beach entrance.
Before you swim
- The village marks a monitored swimming zone, a restricted zone where you swim at your own risk, and a boat lane where you may swim only with a guide
- A life jacket is compulsory when snorkelling inside the monitored zone
- No swimming after drinking alcohol, and no smoking
- Never stand on coral, chase turtles or feed fish
- Habu-kurage box jellyfish: the prefecture's alert ran from 1 June to 30 September in 2026, and the village posts its own alerts
December to March
Lifeguards finish on 30 November and start again in mid-April. In February 2026 diners left dated reviews at Shokudo Sachi, Shuraku Ahari and Izakaya Maruni in Aharen village, so the village behind the beach keeps some kitchens going in winter. The Japan Meteorological Agency's 1991–2020 normal for the sea south of the Okinawa main island sits at about 22 °C through February.
