Furuzamami curves for 700 to 800 m along the south-east shore of Zamami, facing Tokashiki across the channel, and the village counts it among its three lifeguarded beaches along with Ama and Nishibama on Aka. The reef starts almost at your feet. A few metres out the bottom falls away, and that edge is where the big coral heads and the fish gather, which is why the Michelin Green Guide gives the beach two stars.
The village keeps swimmers inside a marked area of about 100 by 100 m and sends lifeguards out to a known danger spot, so read the signs on arrival. Out of season the showers and beach houses close, so bring water and a towel from the village.
Before you swim
- The bottom drops off steeply a few metres from the sand
- The swimming area measures about 100 by 100 m, and swimming outside it needs a guide

- Habu-kurage box jellyfish: the prefecture's alert ran from 1 June to 30 September in 2026
- Smoking, alcohol and taking shells or coral are banned on the beach
December to March
The beach faces south toward Tokashiki, away from the winter north wind. The showers and rentals stop after summer, and the village has reported people swimming out of season with no lifeguards on duty. The Japan Meteorological Agency's 1991–2020 normal for the sea south of the Okinawa main island sits at about 22 °C through February.

Worth knowing
- Ride the village bus out and walk the 1.4 km back, or the other way round, since the last winter bus leaves the beach at 16:45.
- Buy a return bus ticket at Blue Yukuru-kan; the beach stop has no ticket machine.
- Life jackets cost about ¥500 to rent in summer and make the drop-off far easier for children.
