Shima no Eki Kurumado is a black-sugar maker and roadside shop in Mugiya on Yoron's south-east coast, open 9:00–17:00 except Tuesdays and closed for winter in January and February.
Kurumado boils pure kokuto the old way and sells it alongside peanut kokuto and salted karinto, with sugarcane juice and shaved ice to eat on the spot. Tabelog reviewers from May 2025 to August 2026 stopped for the rainbow shaved ice and the cane juice. Note the winter break: the tourism association says it closes in January and February, so a February 2027 visit will find it shut. It sits near the folk village and Akasaki beach.
What to order
- Fresh sugarcane juice
