Miyako Airport (MMY) is Miyako-jima's main airport, 15 to 25 minutes by car from Hirara, with JTA, RAC and ANA flights from Naha, RAC hops to Tarama and Ishigaki, Miyako Kyoei Bus routes into town from ¥290, and a free bicycle pump at the ground-floor information desk.
Miyako Airport sits in the middle of the island, and the terminal company puts central Hirara 15 to 25 minutes away by car. It's a two-storey building with arrivals, rental cars, the bus stop and the taxi rank on the ground floor and departures upstairs. The terminal opens 7:00–21:00, and the tourist information desk in the ground-floor lobby lends a bike pump.
JTA and ANA (jta, ana) carry most of the Naha traffic, and RAC adds a flight each way. RAC also runs the short hops to Tarama and Ishigaki, where ANA flies once a day too. On the mainland side the airport's schedule shows JAL and ANA to Haneda, JTA and ANA to Kansai and ANA to Chubu.
Kyoei Bus routes 4 and 5 run between Hirara and the airport four to six times a day each, route 2 twice, with route 4 going on to Kurima and Maehama and route 5 to Ueno and Miyaguni. Route 9 passes the airport on its way between the Tokyu Hotel and Shimojishima Airport, and Chuo Kotsu's Airport Liner starts here for the run to Shimojishima flights. The terminal company says it runs no shuttle bus of its own.
