Kume Shosen's ferries take 3 hours from Naha's Tomari Port to Kume-jima direct, or 3 hours 30 minutes via Tonaki, for ¥3,970 one way and ¥1,400 for a bicycle (fares from 1 October 2026), and the Kumejima Ocean Jet's Tsumugi does the run from Naha Port in about 1 hour 32 minutes.

Kume Shosen sails twice a day from Tomarin except on Mondays, when only the 9:00 runs. The morning boat calls at Tonaki and reaches Kanegusuku at 12:30. The 14:00 goes direct and arrives at 17:00. The company swaps its two ships, Ferry Ryukyu and Ferry Kaiho, from day to day and won't sell a ticket for a particular one.
Fares rose about 15% on 1 October 2026, and it was the first rise in passenger fares since 2012. An adult one-way is now ¥3,970 and a bike ¥1,400, so by our sums a return with a bike comes to ¥10,340 on the ¥7,540 return fare. Flights from Naha take about 35–40 minutes by Kumejima Airport's figures, so the boat suits riders who'd rather not box a bike.
The Kumejima Ocean Jet's high-speed Tsumugi began sailing from Naha Port in 2026 and runs in about 1 hour 32 minutes. It leaves from the Naha Port terminal in Tsudo-cho. That's a different harbour from Tomari. We couldn't find an operator website with its fares or luggage rules in October 2026, so the figures here come from the Skyticket booking site.

Weather and cancellations
Kume Shosen decides on weather cancellations at about 7:30 on the day and posts the status on its home page. Some sailings are marked as subject to a judgement at Tonaki. On those, the captain decides after leaving port whether the sea allows a call there. The Kumejima Ocean Jet's high-speed boat went back into service on 1 July 2026 after an accident, according to the Ryukyu Shimpo, and Skyticket notes it can cancel in strong wind.
