Uehara Port on Iriomote's north coast is 45–55 minutes from Ishigaki, and in winter north wind its boats cancel often and divert passengers through Ohara.
Uehara faces north, and Anei Kanko says that in a strong northerly the route's waves and wind cancel sailings, with cancellations often running on for days in the winter monsoon. When that happens both companies send Uehara passengers to Ohara on the south-east coast and run connecting buses across the island. Yaeyama Kanko Ferry's bus is free with an Uehara ticket and a bus voucher, and Anei's is for Anei ticket holders, both with limited seats.
