Iriomote Jungle Hotel Painumaya

Painumaya stands alone in the subtropical forest at Takana on the north-east coast. The Taketomi tourism association says there are no houses or shops around it. You hear the Hora River and the birds from the rooms. Its own guides take guests into the forest and out on the water, and the kitchen cooks island dishes from local produce. All 30 rooms are non-smoking, and there's no lift.

The outdoor pool opens from April to October. From Ohara port it is about 30 minutes by car, and the hotel's scheduled transfer needs booking; the bus stop at Hotel Painumaya-mae leaves a 15-minute walk up a gravel road. For 15 February 2027 Jalan listed a breakfast plan at ¥16,200 for two.
