Gobies dives the open-water side of the Keramas from its own big boat, and its favourite site is Shimozone, about 20 minutes from Aka, where giant oceanic mantas have turned up in recent years. Three dives run back to back without returning to port, so you bring lunch to eat on board during the surface intervals. The shop also runs expeditions to Aguni in spring and to Tonaki on request for groups of five or more.
Gobies asks for 70 to 100 logged dives with drift experience and makes every diver carry a signal float, and the website and booking form are in Japanese. You can stay on Zamami or Tokashiki and cross by the village boat Mitsushima, which takes 15 minutes from Zamami. Day-trippers from Naha ride the 9:00 Queen Zamami out and the last fast boat home.
