Yaima-mura gathers red-tiled Yaeyama houses built over 100 years ago on a hill looking over Nagura Bay, and the operator fills them with sanshin music and hands-on craft sessions. Visitors can still walk into the squirrel monkey enclosure, and the park has stopped its feeding sessions for the animals' safety.
The Nagura drive-in at the gate needs no ticket. Its Anparu Shokudo serves nankotsu soki soba and juushii rice, which makes it a useful lunch stop on the west road between town and Kabira.
Worth knowing
- Skip the ticket and stop at the drive-in if all you want is soba and the view of Nagura Bay.
- Nagura Anparu, the mangrove wetland, lies just below the hill.
