Kuroshima Visitor Center is the Ministry of the Environment's national park centre in Miyazato, with displays on the island's history and the sea life around Kuroshima. It sits a short ride from Nakamoto beach.
The Ministry of the Environment runs the centre as part of Iriomote-Ishigaki National Park. Inside, displays cover the island's history with the farm tools and household goods islanders once used, and panels explain the sea around the island.
The Kuroshima Research Institute, which studies sea turtles and coral, stands nearby in Miyazato, and a national park picnic area lies just south. Together they make a sheltered stop on a windy winter day.
Worth knowing
- Visit before Nakamoto beach to understand the reef you are about to see.
