The Sugar Road is a straight lane between sugar cane fields on Kohama that the 2001 NHK drama Churasan made famous as a school route, and the Taketomi Town Tourism Association recommends it for cycling with the sea ahead.
Cane fields line both sides and the sea fills the view ahead, and the town tourism association says riding through it feels wonderful. Fans of Churasan still come to see the lane the characters walked to school.
At night the fields go dark and the association says the Milky Way shows well, so it makes a short walk from the village after dinner.
Worth knowing
- Take the lane after dinner on a clear night to see the Milky Way.
