The village office, the port and the main settlement sit together on Tokashiki's east coast, and the island's two big beach villages of Tokashiku and Aharen lie over the hills to the west. The 2020 census counted 718 people on the island. The tourist information desk at the port, Tabi no Annainin, opens every day from 9:30 to 17:30 and works in Japanese only.
Sunny Coral serves coffee and sandwiches by the port from 8:00, and the Hotel Kanaloa restaurant cooks set meals at lunch and dinner every day. Soba-ya Chingushi, behind the post office, makes a tuna-broth soba on weekday lunchtimes. Near the port, the Tokashiki Village History and Folk Museum shows a whale skeleton and wartime clothing to visitors who book ahead.
