Cape Manzamo

Cape Manzamo is a grass-topped limestone headland in Onna with 20 m cliffs over the East China Sea, and entry costs ¥100 a person. It opens daily until sunset, and the visitor building at the gate holds a soba restaurant and a gift shop.
Legend says King Sho Kei looked over the grassland on top and called it a meadow where ten thousand people could sit, and the name stuck. The cliffs drop about 20 m to the sea, and on a clear day the view runs out to the horizon. A visitor building opened at the entrance on 2 October 2020, and admission began the same day.
The walk around the top is short and flat, and the operator singles out the sunset as the time to come. Upstairs in the visitor building, Ryukyu Ryori Matsunoshita serves soki soba and mozuku soba, and the Zou no Hana shop sells Onna specialities. Staff also dress visitors in bingata robes for a stroll along the cliffs, from ¥2,000 for adults.
Worth knowing
- In winter the gate closes earlier with the sunset, so arrive by mid-afternoon for a slow walk.
- The admission is a flat ¥100 for adults and children, and under primary-school age is free.
