Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium

The building steps down the hillside in four floors, from the coral reef at the top to the deep sea at the bottom, and you walk it in that order. Everyone comes for the Kuroshio Sea tank on the second floor, where whale sharks circle past a window tall enough to stop conversation. Plan two and a half hours if you read the panels and stop at the whale shark and manta corner.

Next door, and free, sit the dolphin lagoon, the sea turtle pool, the manatee house and the Oki-chan Theatre, which stays open until 17:30. The dolphin the theatre is named after died in December 2025 after half a century of shows since the 1975 Ocean Expo, and her younger pod-mates now perform there daily. The aquarium has no closures planned until the end of March 2027, so a February visit runs on the regular 8:30–18:30 timetable.

Riders get an easy approach from Route 505 or Route 114, and the park's car parks cost nothing. The road from the coast to the North Gate climbs gently. Come early on a winter weekday and you can lock up, see the big tank before the coaches arrive and still make Bise for lunch.
