The Ryukyu Hotel opened in July 2022 on Nashiro beach at the southern end of Itoman, with 443 rooms and six pools that connect to the sand. The biggest, the 664-square-metre Ocean Pool, has the best sea view in the place, and a kids' pool tips a giant bucket over the shallows. Canoes go out from the beach for a fee. Several restaurants and a wedding chapel fill the grounds.
You can swim outdoors here in February. The All Season Pool is heated in winter and runs straight into the indoor pool, and the Ocean Pool reopens in April. The hotel rents electric bikes by the hour, ¥500 for one hour on the 2023 price list, for a spin through the cane fields and fishing villages of the south. Reserve a bike ahead, since the fleet is small.
