Ibaruma

Ibaruma is the village at the narrow neck of north-east Ishigaki, and Tamatorizaki Observatory above it looks over both seas toward the Hirakubo peninsula; Akaishi Shokudo's soba counter lies just up the road.
Ishigaki pinches to its narrowest at Ibaruma, so the Tamatorizaki lookout on the ridge shows the Pacific and the East China Sea at once. National Route 390 from the airport meets the roads to the Hirakubo peninsula and the north-west coast here, so a full loop of the island passes through.
Sabichi cave nearby is the only limestone cave in Japan that opens onto the sea, according to Ishigaki City, and at low tide you can walk out onto the beach. Akaishi Shokudo serves its heaped vegetable soba from Thursday to Saturday, and the Nobare Misaki farm café at Tori, south toward the airport, pours fruit drinks with a sea view.
Ibaruma post office and the Akaishi co-op store are the last chances to stock up before the peninsula. In a winter north-easterly the neck is exposed on both sides.
