Kitanakagusuku
北中城村Kitanakagushiku26°18′ N 127°48′ EVillage
Kitanakagusuku is a hillside village in central Okinawa between Okinawa City and the east coast, and Japanese Wikipedia counts it as the most densely populated village in Japan. It shares the ridge of Nakagusuku castle with its southern neighbour and looks down on Nakagusuku Bay.
The village rises from the east coast to the ridge that carries Nakagusuku castle, one of the Ryukyu kingdom's World Heritage gusuku. The village packs more people per square kilometre than any other in Japan. Ploughman's Lunch Bakery sits on the hill in the Adaniya district, though its website has gone quiet since 2021.
