Mibaru Beach is a long natural beach in Tamagusuku, Nanjo, so shallow that you can walk to the reef at big low tides, and the Mibaru Marine Center runs glass-bottom boats from it all year.

Mibaru and Hyakuna together make about 2 km of natural sand on the south coast of the Chinen peninsula, and Mibaru is the end with the facilities. The Mibaru Marine Center runs a shop, a restaurant, barbecues and boat rental, and its glass-bottom boats go out for about 20 minutes over the coral year-round. The marine centre describes it as untouched by resort development.
It makes a natural break on the Route 331 coast ride, with Hama-no-Ya and Yamano Chaya Rakusui on the slope just west. Check the tide before you come, because big low tides drain the shallows almost to the reef.
Before you swim
- Habu-kurage box jellyfish appear from May to October; Okinawa nets many swimming beaches from June to October against them, and vinegar poured on a sting before removing tentacles is the standard first aid.
- The beach is very shallow; at big low tides you can walk out to the reef, and the water comes back over the flats quickly.
- The marine centre closes in bad weather.
December to March
Mibaru Marine Center runs its glass-bottom boats year-round, 8:30–17:00 outside May to September, and Nanjo's winter guide recommends glass boats as a winter activity. The beach faces south, away from the north wind.
