A riad is a Moroccan house built around a courtyard, and Riad Lamp brings the idea to Kudeken on the Chinen heights, where Sefa-utaki also stands. Nanjo's tourism office says everything from the lamps to the building materials came from Morocco. There are five rooms: two doubles of 27 square metres, two twins of 23 and a top-floor room, and the balcony off the lobby looks over the forest to the sea. At night the stars come out over the cape.
It suits two people on a slow trip around the sacred sites of the Chinen peninsula. The pool is small and the hotel says nothing about heating it in winter. Check-in runs 15:00 to 20:00 and the desk is staffed from 8:00 to 20:00, so call ahead if you'll land late. The hotel has no published bike policy, so ask before you arrive with one.
