AJ Resort Island Ikeijima

Ikei is the last of the four islands strung along Kaichu Doro, and this resort spreads over a big site near its beaches with 58 rooms, most of them 36-square-metre twins, and cottages. Its hot spring, Kuroshio no Yu, takes the name of the warm current that runs past the Ryukyus. Buggy rides go round the grounds, and there are tennis courts. The drive from Okinawa-kita IC takes about 50 minutes.

In winter the pool closes and the onsen does the work. For riders this is the far end of the Kaichu Doro ride, a flat causeway and then the island roads beyond Henza, so a soak at the turnaround suits the day. The hotel rents bicycles for a fee. Ask whether your own bike can stay in the room or a locked space.
