The tomb sits on a small limestone islet that the Ryukyu Kingdom's records call Amamizo-utaki. Uruma describes a small crossing that appears only at low tide, so the walk out happens in a short window each day. People come to pray for good health and for children.
The rock is wet and sharp after the tide drops, so wear shoes for the wet rock, keep your voice down near the tomb and leave any offerings untouched.
Worth knowing
- Plan the visit around the tide table for Heshikiya on Uruma's tourism site, and head back before the water rises over the crossing.
- Shirumichu is the cave where the same deities lived, and it sits a short ride away south of Higa village.
