American Village, Mihama and Sunabe

American Village is the shopping and dining district that wraps around Depot Island and a seafront promenade in Chatan's Mihama, and this page also covers the Sunabe seawall about 15 minutes' walk north. Fireworks go up over the water every Saturday at 20:00.

Mihama packs shops, galleries, hotels and amusement halls into a few blocks behind Sunset Beach, and the waterfront path runs past Depot Island to the Fisherina marina. In the evening people drift to the seawall benches for the sunset. Saturday-night fireworks go up at 20:00.
Sunabe lies a short walk or ride north on the Miyagi coast, and Chatan's tourism association describes it as popular with locals. Many American residents live there, and the seawall is a shore-dive spot all year. Along it, the cafés and pubs range from Transit Café's ocean-view lunch to craft beer at Beer Rize. Hamaya Soba, beside the seawall, serves the neighbourhood's soba.
