Kubura

Kubura is Yonaguni's fishing village on the west coast, about ten minutes by car from the airport, where the Ishigaki ferry docks, the marlin boats land their catch and Japan's westernmost cape at Irizaki rises above the harbour.
Kubura is a working harbour. The fishing co-operative lands marlin and other big fish here, Fukuyama Kaiun's Ferry Yonakuni ties up at the passenger terminal twice a week, and the semi-submersible to the monument leaves from the same harbour. Japan's westernmost post office and schools are in the village, and the cape at Irizaki is a short climb above the port.
Eating here means fish. The co-op's own Gyokyo Shokudo serves sashimi and fry sets at lunch across from the ferry, Izakaya Maruti cooks the day's catch on the ground floor of Minshuku Tidan, and Moist Roll Cafe bakes honey rolls a few doors away. Shima Ryori Isun, which Tabelog reviewers call the island's most popular dinner room, is closed from October to the end of 2026.
Kubura-bari lies a few minutes north of the harbour, and the island ties this cliff crevasse to its memory of the head tax.
