Iyu means fish in Okinawan, and Iyumachi is the market hall at Tomari fishing port where Naha comes to buy tuna and reef fish. Stalls such as Maguroya Honpo and Mikagan sell sashimi and sushi packs at local prices, and a May 2026 Tabelog reviewer paid ¥500 for a block of tuna and ¥100 a piece for fish tempura. Maguroya Honpo has seats and serves bowls from 9:00 to 15:00, and it lets you choose plain or vinegared rice.
The Tabelog listing warns that some stalls close once they sell out and that the eat-in counters are sometimes shut while takeaway carries on, so arrive in the morning. Okinawa's own bluefin tuna starts landing about two weeks after Golden Week in May, per lunches.jp, so a February visit means other tuna and reef fish.
