Tenbusu Naha Traditional Craft Experience
てんぶす那覇 伝統工芸体験26°13′ N 127°41′ ECraft class
Tenbusu Naha, the city-run cultural centre at the Makishi end of Kokusai-dori, teaches 30- to 90-minute sessions in bingata dyeing from ¥1,650, Shuri weaving from ¥2,200, raised lacquer and Ryukyu glass blowing on its second floor (2026 prices).
Naha City moved its traditional crafts centre into Tenbusu Naha, and the second floor now runs short hands-on sessions in the city's own crafts. The bingata class gives you a pre-pasted stencil design to colour in the Okinawan way, with flat dark shading at the edges of each shape, and you wash the rice paste out at home three days later. The Shuri weaving class, a craft handed down in the old royal capital, comes in coaster, mat and book-cover sizes.
Book and pay by card through the centre's reservation pages, and arrive at the second-floor desk ten minutes before your start. A 30-minute bingata coaster costs ¥1,650 and fits between lunch and a walk down to the Makishi market. Tenbusu stays open until 22:00 on most days.
