Mariyudu Falls is a two-tier, 16 m waterfall on Iriomote's Urauchi River and one of Japan's 100 best waterfalls; you see it from a viewing platform about 40 minutes' walk from the upper boat landing.

Mariyudu drops about 16 m in two steps into an oval pool roughly 130 m by 80 m, and the name belongs to the pool: mari means round and yudu a still pool. You look down on it from a platform beside the trail, through tree ferns, and the trail is maintained though muddy in places. It was chosen as one of Japan's 100 best waterfalls.
The upper Urauchi has long been treated as sacred, and the river carries old stories, including one of a monster in the pool that rose on certain days. From the platform the trail carries on upstream to Kanbire.

- Borrow the free rubber boots at the Urauchi Kanko office if your shoes are light.

By Urauchi River boat and on foot. Urauchi Kanko's boat runs about 30 minutes upstream to the landing at Gunkan-iwa, and the trail from there reaches the Mariyudu viewpoint in about 40 minutes.
