Sashiki

Sashiki is the former town on Nakagusuku Bay in northern Nanjo where the city hall now stands, and it holds the hilltop Yuinchi Hotel with its hot spring and the Sho family's early seat at Sashiki-ue gusuku.

Sashiki was a village until 1980 and a town until the 2006 merger, and since 2018 it has held Nanjo's city hall at Shinzato. It faces Nakagusuku Bay and the Katsuren peninsula, and the hillside district of Tsukishiro sits above the coast road. Sashiki-ue gusuku was the residence of Sho Shisho, father of Sho Hashi, who went on to unify Ryukyu, and the family tomb at Sashiki Yodore lies nearby.
On the coast road at Tedokon, Iiyanbee serves zenzai out of a converted garage, and up the hill the Yuinchi Hotel Nanjo pumps a natural hot spring of ancient fossil seawater, open to campers as well as guests. Riders heading for Chinen pass through on Route 331, and the Tsukishiro side is the top of the Niraikanai Bridge descent.
